I wanted to post a few pictures from our trip. I didn’t get AS many pictures as I would have hoped. Especially while we were at Disneyland. BUT, when you are taking TWO kids into a theme park, accompanied by strollers, diapers, clothing, food, toys, snacks, carriers, blankets, bottles, sippy cups, wipes, jackets, shoes- THE LIST GOES ON- the LAST thing you want to carry around is your huge camera. And for a photographer to say that means- WE HAD A TON OF STUFF WITH US.

So I snapped happily on my phone whenever I didn’t have my camera with me. Which was the entire trip to Disneyland. I need to invest in a small camera that I can throw in my purse. The last one I had… well, let’s not talk about it. So I’m thankful that the iPhone’s have a decent camera in them in the meantime!

San Diego NEEDS to be my new home someday. For real. This was the view from where we were staying. I was standing on the porch when I snapped this pic. We were right on the bay and it was fantabulous.

Aw. Sweet boy couldn’t get enough of this flower.

I was REALLY GOOD and didn’t work THAT much while we were supposed to be on vaca. But Jay caught me checking in on my emails.

Lots and lots and lots of cars go wherever we go. I find them everywhere. In the car. In my diaper bag. In his car seat. They are oozing out of our lives as we know it. And a WHOLE BUNCH followed us to San Diego. And followed us home. This kid LOVES him some cars.

Love my Epiphane bag. So. Much.

Aw. Brothers.

This is where we stayed. If you travel a little or a lot- it doesn’t matter. You NEED to check out HomeAway.com for lodging. It’s the first and almost only place I book through to find places to stay when we travel. I love it and we haven’t had a bad experience yet!

We have some pictures of us filming our promo video too, which is why we went to San Diego to begin with. But I’ll save those pictures for another time, maybe. It was a great time for sure! After our few days in San Diego, we headed North to Newport Beach to shoot THIS wedding:

Freakin’ rad. It was such an awesome wedding. We can’t wait to share the whole thing! Then we spent the last two days that we were in Cali in Disneyland! The happiest place on earth should also be known as the most exhausting place on earth. For real, right? Wowzers. But we had a great time and the boys loved it. I’ll never NOT do something just because it’s hard that the boys are small. It’s harder to do certain things now, but I refuse to miss out on life and things that I love JUST because it’s more work. SO. We went to Disneyland. And it was MORE work. For sure. But worth it and such a fun time!

And best picture ever…….

I wish I would have taken more pictures in Disneyland. Note to any mommy who’s taking two kids under two into Disneyland. You probably won’t be taking a lot of pictures during that trip. I was constantly making sure no one was about to have a meltdown, while planning out our route in Disneyland, riding rides and coordinating with meals and nap times. Whoa. It was worth it. Fabulous memories for us and I’m happy that both of my kids can now say that they’ve been to Disneyland more times within their first two years of life than a lot of adults can say. HAHA. We love Disneyland too much. And go as often as possible. Which is like twice a year. But I wish it was more.

Maybe it will be whenever we live in San Diego someday.

We made it home from California yesterday! What a trip! What a week! I didn’t bring my computer ON PURPOSE so now I’m playing massive catchup. But I haven’t had a TRUE vacation with no emailing and no blogging since, well…. since Cruz was born I guess! Crazy. It was so great to get away. We started the week with a few days in San Diego before heading North to photograph the wedding we had. And I have to say that San Diego has GOT to me on the top of my list of places I’d move to tomorrow. I mean, for real. If we had a chance to move there, I’d move in one big, huge giant heartbeat.

We love it there.

The wedding we shot was fabulous. Filming our promo video was a insane amount of fun. We have more filming to finish up in October, so I’m really looking forward to that. Mostly, I can’t wait to see it all come together and to use it as a way for couples to visually see who they are hiring for their wedding day or Lifestyle Session. We’ve dreamed about doing our promo video since very early on in our business, so it’s pretty nuts that it’s here and that we are doing it.

Then we went to Disneyland! And it was such a blast, except taking two kiddos who are in diapers and strollers is a MESS LOAD of work. And I made the decision this time that we were NOT leaving the park for naps so they just had to sleep wherever we were. It was interesting. No one napped, really. But it actually really did beat having to trudge OUT of the park and back IN to the park all in the name of good naps. It was better this way! But, still exhausting because Cruz didn’t nap at all and then had a really hard time crashing in the stroller come bedtime because he was WAY to excited to be at Disneyland. So he didn’t go to bed until past eleven for both nights we were there. Which made the car ride home, well…. interesting to say the least!

All in all, we had a GREAT time. It’s awesome to be home. We are back to the grind and hitting the ground running this Monday morning. Although I DO wish I could be on vacation, permanently. Wouldn’t that rock? Yes. And I DO have a major itch to move to San Diego now. It’s pretty much my dream place to live someday.

Maybe someday!

I hope everyone has a great Monday! Here’s to a fresh week of work, creativity, and exhausting new hurdles to jump through with my ‘terrible two’s toddler’, I’m sure!

arm farts

Look at that face!

One of the nights that we were in San Diego last week, Cruz woke up crying really hard. Jay and I were in the living room of our suite, and usually I let him cry it out for a few minutes- most of the time he’s just transitioning and it takes him a couple minutes to go right back to sleep.

But this cry was different.

I jumped to my feet instantly and went into our room where he was sleeping. He was sitting up, crying and shaking. So of course I picked him up only to discover that he was definitely running a slight fever. It seemed weird to me- he didn’t have any cold or flu symptoms all day and I can usually tell when he’s teeth are bothering him. So I was kinda caught off guard to learn that he was running a fever.

I didn’t have a thermometer with us in the hotel, but I did bring Tylenol. So, Jay went into the bathroom to get it out of our toiletries bag and I rocked Cruz in the meantime. He laid his little head on my shoulder and I just rubbed his back until Dadda brought the Tylenol. We gave him just a little bit, I changed his diaper and then I held him some more. He put his little head back down on my shoulder and I just rocked him back and forth.

It was probably about midnight when all this was happening. And in the midst of it being the middle of the night, his fever, and being exhausted from the day, Cruz still managed to lift his little head from my shoulder and made the loudest farting noise with his mouth on my arm! He did it twice and then laid his little head back down on my shoulder. Ha!

Jay and I laughed for the rest of the night about it. No matter how sick, how tired or how late, our little Cruz mustered up enough strength to make farting noises on my arm. He definitely is a boy to the core!

And I’m happy to report, Cruz was completely better by morning!

family vacation

22 Sep

We left town yesterday and I am so glad that we did. I had an unexpectedly awful weekend, so it’s nice to get away for a bit. More on my awful weekend in another post. I honestly don’t feel like explaining it just yet.

We headed to San Diego for a family vacation, which is also in honor of our 6th wedding anniversary that is coming up this week! We have been so blessed with several trips this summer- and I thought we wouldn’t be able to take ANY. We are one lucky family with the most amazing friends and family ever. So Jason, Cruz and I headed out yesterday morning and we are staying on Shelter Island. When we got here I immediately fell in love with this little island. I’ve been to San Diego many times and I have never been to Shelter Island.

I love San Diego. We fully intend to live here at some point in our lives. Probably to retire. And that’s fine with me.

We are staying at a great hotel. When we checked in, not only did we receive the best customer service ever but we were also upgraded to a King Suite! Why? We’re not sure! But we’ll take it! We were given free breakfast every day either for room service or in the restaurant here and several other amenities that we weren’t expecting- including a view of the marina! These were taken last night from right outside our balcony. It’s amazing and the breeze that blew into our suite is perfect:

We went to Fred’s for dinner. We both ate way too much. We walked around The Gas Lamp District and talked about all the spots that we want to do photo shoots around here. There’s so much to dream about!

Today we are taking Cruz to Sea World for the first time!! So we are completing #13 on our 101 in 1001 days list! We are so excited to watch him check out the dolphins, sting rays and fish! Cruz really loves animals and watching his little face light up will be SO worth it.

We are here until Friday and I am so grateful. We are also going to try to hit up San Diego Zoo while we’re here too. I love family trips with my boys!

29 Aug

We are at the Hotel Del Coronado this weekend. It’s obvious why this place is one of my favorite places. It’s gorgeous, it’s historic, and it’s on the beach in one of my favorite places ever- San Diego. And not just San Diego- but on Coronado Island.

We are here this weekend for Megan & Doug’s wedding! Megan is Jason’s cousin and we are so super excited for their marriage and that Doug is going to be apart of the family. We love them and are so happy to share this with them!

Besides it actually being pretty hot here, this weekend could not get any better. We plan to spend the day out by the pool, at the beach and taking pictures of Megan & Doug as they get ready for their wedding day. It’s going to be amazing!

We are in San Diego this weekend for Jason’s cousin’s wedding- not just San Diego but Coronado Island! It’s going to be the most amazing weekend ever!

But before that, Jason and I were able to spend some time with one of my cousins who also lives in San Diego! Julie and Josh were so awesome to open up their home to us for a couple nights so we could come visit! We did a little mini shoot with them as our way of saying ‘thanks!’. I wanted to post a couple pictures here as a sneak peak of what’s to come. It was so much fun to spend some time with them! Josh made an amazing dinner on Thursday night and it was so wonderful to just hang out and relax!

They live right on the ocean, which means this was our first beach shoot ever! We love you Julie and Josh! Thanks for a great couple of days!

quick one

25 Aug

We are trying to leave town tomorrow, so as you can imagine, I am running around like a chicken with my head cut off!

Seriously, I have a lot to do to get ready to leave.

I wish I could write more and explain everything that’s happened so far today! We got some very good news from two separate clients this morning about some pretty big projects that are coming down the pipelines. It’s unexpected, thrilling and slightly overwhelming! But I am not complaining. I get to be home with my boy.

My boy.

He is teething today- BIG TIME. I just got a new product in the mail from Belle’s Biscuits– a company in Maine that asked me to try out their teething biscuits. They are adorable and I am so excited for Cruz to try them. A full review will be coming as soon as I can give them to Cruz. He’s napping right now, so that wouldn’t work out too well. But stay tuned for that!

So we’re heading out tomorrow to San Diego for Jason’s cousin’s wedding on the beautiful Coronado Island! We are so excited, we can hardly stand it. We have a couple photo shoots lined up while we’re in Cali and we are planning on taking some excellent pictures of her wedding while we are there.

I’m excited to get out of this heat.

I know this post didn’t really have a point and it wasn’t very thought provoking. But I thought I’d write about the jumble that’s going on inside my head.

Now onto packing which apparently takes days when you have an infant.

Cruz at 6 Months Old* Cruz is 6 months old in this picture. And his facial expression accurately indicates the way that I am feeling today: Not sure if I should laugh or cry; shocked but calm; overwhelmed but relaxed. Ha.
